Qualifications
- The applicant must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in the appropriate licensure area (to be determined)
- Must be at least 21 years old and have experience as a head football coach with a thorough knowledge of the rules of the sport, be able to handle the duties and responsiblilities of a head coach according to the Elkin High School Athletic Handbook
- Once hired, the applicant must complete the required coaching courses on the NFHS.com website
- A valid CPR certificate is required
- All Elkin City Schools HR onboarding policies, HR screening (drug test and background check) and health physical/TB test requirements are required before Board approval
- Must be eligible and willing to obtain an activity bus license
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force
- Occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess
- All coaches (volunteer or paid) must complete the following courses through the National Fundamentals of High School (NFHS.com) before being approved to work with student athletes:
- Fundamentals of Coaching (8 +/- hour) High School Coaches
- Valid CPR Certificate

Responsibilities
- REPORTS TO: Principal, Athletic Director
- Must have a thorough and working knowledge of the rules of the sport
- Provides leadership and support in planning, developing and implementing an instructional program in the sport as assigned
- Provides leadership and support in administering the sport program
- Works to foster a climate conducive to learning as assigned
- Works to establish and implement an improvement process for the sport as assigned
- Works to establish good public and employee relations for the sport as assigned
- Maintains professional work habits
- Maintains and upgrades his/her professional skills in order to improve instruction for students
- Communicates with parents and the educational community (Professional and Interpersonal Relations)
- Implements fundamental sports skills and sports management systems (Coaching and Related Areas)
- Cooperates with school principal and school athletic director; develops rapport with coaching staff and with the school; helps to organize coaching staff; develops positive relationship with participants, student body, faculty, parents and community, game officials, news media, opponents and employees; employs appropriate conduct during games and practices; participates in activities that foster professional growth and development; commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior and language
- Must be eligible and willing to obtain CDL bus driver's license for driving the Activity bus
- Other duties as assigned
- Teach content and skills in licensed area utilizing course of study adopted by the
- Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities
- Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and
- administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
- Adapt material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide
- and challenge pupils
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and
- maturity level of pupils; maintain required inventory records
- Adapt the curriculum to provide individual, small-group, or remedial instruction to
- meet the needs of the individual pupil
- Encourage pupils to think independently and to express original ideas
- Evaluate each pupil’s progress in subject area
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly,
- productive classroom environment
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in
- assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
- Administer or monitor group tests
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs
- Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided
- by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities
- of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
- Other duties as assigned
